The ecofill solution works with a combination of brand new, custom designed and patent pending plant machinery that mixes clays and subsoils (ex-situ) with a bespoke, formulated proprietary binder at a predefined ratio. When the end product is compacted the stiffness and load bearing of the ground dramatically increases in order to support the trafficking and loading that will be placed upon it. Traditional binders, such as Quicklime, are not used in the process due to their performance and health and safety constraints.

No. unlike other binding agents, the Ecofill binder is classed as an irritant (just like Ordinary Portland Cement) and is employed in a manner that is safe to the ground and the surrounding environment. We also use less binder compared to others, therefore ecofill typically has a much lower carbon footprint, has less health and safety considerations and is more cost effective.

All ground types are different. In order to achieve the best efficiency from the process the ground ideally needs to have a certain moisture content. If moisture levels are too high, we can introduce a pre-treatment to the ground. Known as our “Pr-Ecofill” process we will ascertain moisture levels prior and implement a plan to achieve best efficiency for the main Ecofill process. We will guide our clients every step of the way.
Ex-Situ (in this instance) is the process of treating clays & subsoils ‘out of’ the ground. In-Situ is treating the clays and subsoils whilst still in the ground which has many limitations such as the depth at which the technology can be introduced and working in confined/hard to reach areas, for example, housing developments and/or railway embankments to name but a few.

As of yet we haven’t quite figured out how to get our machines to the moon, but for now, Ecofill can be used anywhere else on planet earth. Ecofill is available to every kind of construction project ranging from smaller housing developments, medium sized commercial builds right through to large scale industrial projects, offshore windfarm projects and national rail & road infrastructure. We also work with quarries to transform their waste into a marketable product.
EcoFill can be used in low temperatures (3 degrees+) unlike Quick Lime, which generally require temperatures of 7 degrees+ which is typically restricted to the months between March and September. During light rains, EcoFill processing and use can continue as normal. Following compaction, the Ecofill treated subsoil is largely impervious to moisture and it sheds rainwater similar to a paved road. This means that even with hard rains, there are usually only minimal delays before the surfacing can be applied.
We know how much of a problem this has been in the past, especially when corrosive binders are used. These binders will alter the pH and nutrient status of the soil, which results in reduced or the elimination of crop growth and yield. Pre site data is collated, analysed and stored. When temporary structures such as haul roads and compounds are no longer required, based on this data and on our expertise of course, we can formulate a solution to return the pH levels and nutrients to their original status and in some cases even improve on this.
Absolutely. All of our products are designed and produced to national specifications for the DMRB (Design Manual for Roads & Bridges). Based on pre-site investigation, the ecofill Binder is formulated to optimum workability with the site ground type to achieve above and beyond the minimum stiffness modulus and load bearing that is required.
We have thorough testing procedures in place at every stage of the process. All of which are verified and validated by independent & accredited third-party institutes. All reports are made available to the client at every stage of the Ecofill process.
EcoFill can be mixed with subsoils and clays to produce materials that are compliant with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and their relevant British Standards. In addition to this the Ecofill material can be produced and designed in accordance with BRE 470 and TWF2019 for use as working platforms.

Ecofill has a workability period of up to 10 calendar days (provided stockpiles are sealed). This allows for much greater flexibility in site operations.
After final compaction, EcoFill only requires 24 to 48 hours to cure, this is faster than traditional binders such as cement or quick lime allowing the customer to open up the Ecofill structure to traffic in a shorter period of time. This helps reduce job time and allows surface course materials e.g. our HD layer to be placed in a shorter period of time also. Our technical team are on hand to a guide and assist at any time.
